ROLE SUMMARY

The Chief Investment Officer (“CIO”) is responsible for overseeing the Company’s investment function on behalf of its trust and fiduciary clients. As an independent trust company that does not custody client assets or directly manage liquid investment assets, the CIO provides strategic leadership, fiduciary oversight, and governance of the Company’s investment activities. This involves the oversight of external financial advisors as well as managing the diverse range of unique assets and LLC’s to ensure investment activities are consistent with applicable trust documents, fiduciary standards, and regulatory requirements and client’s desires.

The CIO is a crucial executive leadership position that will provide the necessary expertise to both oversee the investment function of the Company as well as facilitate growth of the Company through supporting business development efforts by offering investment advice to new relationships including family office relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES Dayto Day Responsibilities

The Chief Investment Officer (“CIO”) is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day investment oversight responsibilities of the Company’s fiduciary accounts. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Investment Oversight & Fiduciary Governance
    • Ensure investment activities comply with the Uniform Prudent Investor Act (UPIA), applicable state law, trust documents, and fiduciary standards.
    • Oversee the development of prudent investment objectives for each new fiduciary relationship.
    • Oversee the annual investment review process conducted by internal investment team associates.
    • Maintain and enhance the Company’s investment governance framework through monitoring and revising all investment‑related policies and procedures.
    • Support the Trust Department with diversification and asset‑allocation evaluations, discussions, and reviews.
  • Oversight of Unique and Illiquid Assets
    • Manage the evaluation and ongoing monitoring of nonmarketable and illiquid assets, including LLC interests, operating businesses, mineral interests, farms, commercial real estate, life insurance, and alternative investments (e.g., venture capital, private equity, and private real estate).
    • Assist family office clients in managing inter‑entity investment portfolios and asset deployment strategies.
    • Coordinate valuations, appraisals, inspections, and operational or financial reviews of unique assets.
    • Make recommendations regarding the retention, sale, or restructuring of unique assets to clients and/or the Trust Department.
  • Collaboration with External Financial Advisors
    • Oversee the opening and transfer of client investment accounts in coordination with more than 100 third‑party financial advisors.
    • Manage collaboration with clients’ external financial advisors, either directly or through delegation to and oversight of internal investment team associates.
    • Approve investment recommendations from external financial advisors for prudence and suitability.
    • Facilitate effective investment‑related communication with the external financial advisors to beneficiaries or other interested parties (where needed).
Collaboration with Director of Family Office
  • Assist in the expansion of services to ultra‑high‑net‑worth families.
  • Develop and monitor asset‑related reporting and issues in collaboration with the Director of Family Office.
  • Participate, as needed, in new business development efforts, particularly with ultra‑high‑net‑worth families.
Management Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of investment team, including the annual performance reviews and maintaining a highly engaged and effective investment team.
  • Establishing clear workflows, expectations, and quality‑control and review processes.
  • Supervision of investment activities to ensure adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures, fiduciary duties and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as Chair of the Trust Investment Committee.
  • Identify, evaluate, and monitor investment‑related risks as well as creating and maintaining an investment risk matrix.
