As the Assistant Controller, you will oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial statement reporting. You will lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring adherence to our financial policies and procedures. You’ll also prepare and analyze annual budgets, monthly financial analyses, budget vs. actual reports, and rolling 12-month financial forecasts. A solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), cost accounting, and inventory control is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage routine functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Oversee project tracking and job cost accounting.
  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Conduct audits and prepare local tax returns.
  • Document, monitor, and update accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis, including detailed assessments of general ledger activity and cash projections.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations and manage vendor payments efficiently.
  • Review quarterly and annual budgets for all departments and communicate variances.
  • Maintain and update inventory systems.
  • Analyze costs and profits, setting and tracking financial KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations.
  • Identify issues in product costs, develop solutions, and implement action steps for improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in public or construction accounting is a significant advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong initiative.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong creative and critical thinking abilities, with sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills.
