Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Regional Controller on behalf of a highly respected, mission‑driven nonprofit organization serving communities throughout Washington state. This is a full‑time, hybrid opportunity in Seattle for an experienced accounting leader to oversee regional accounting operations, ensure financial integrity, and support a broad portfolio of government‑funded and community‑based programs.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee full‑cycle accounting operations for regional programs and departments, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, contract billing, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
- Establish and maintain monthly close procedures, reporting timelines, and financial controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting schedules prepared by accounting staff.
- Monitor financial activity and proactively identify operational or accounting issues requiring resolution.
- Supervise and mentor Accounting Managers and accounting staff across multiple functional areas.
- Evaluate staffing needs, workload distribution, and operational processes to support sustainable and efficient department operations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, government funding requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating corrective actions as needed.
- Identify compliance risks, process gaps, and internal control issues and implement solutions proactively.
- Partner closely with program leadership and finance executives to provide financial guidance related to budgeting, contract monitoring, reporting, and fiscal management.
- Contribute to ERP optimization efforts, accounting process improvements, systems enhancements, and broader financial strategy initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years of direct people‑management experience.
- Experience overseeing payroll accounting, including payroll tax and benefits reporting.
- Audit experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active CPA license.
- Strong understanding of federal compliance regulations, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
This full‑time opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $140,000‑$145,000 depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
