The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal executive role that drives strategic financial growth within the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO collaborates closely with practice leaders, the Board of Directors, and other corporate executives to oversee crucial financial functions. This includes Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), controllership, treasury, tax, procurement, financial risk management, insurance, and finance systems.
The CFO is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls and compliance across all jurisdictions, optimizing capital structure and liquidity, as well as steering data‑driven decision‑making and process improvements. The CFO acts as a trusted advisor on financial strategies and mergers and acquisitions, building high‑performing teams and promoting an inclusive culture. Key external relationships with auditors, banks, insurers, and regulators will also be managed by the CFO, who works collaboratively with Milliman's Global Corporate Services (GCS) to enhance operational efficiency.
- Identify and implement strategies to enhance firm growth and profitability.
- Evaluate financial performance against long‑term objectives, budgets, and forecasts.
- Provide insights and recommendations for both short‑term and long‑term growth initiatives.
- Cultivate strong relationships with principals, practice leaders, external auditors, lenders, insurers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with corporate functions to support enterprise priorities.
- Play an active role in pivotal strategic decisions and operational models.
- Advise the CEO, GCS Leaders, Principals, and Board on financial matters.
- Contribute to Milliman’s governance by participating in Board of Directors and various committee meetings.
- Lead all GCS functions alongside other GCS leaders.
- Act as a visionary leader and change agent for Milliman's multi‑year business transformation program.
- Review financial practices and operations across individual practices while suggesting automation and efficiency enhancements.
- Lead functional areas within Finance:
- Financial systems and processes: Drive improvements to operating systems and processes.
- Financial reporting: Ensure access to timely and accurate financial data.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Evaluate monthly financial results and offer recommendations.
- Treasury and risk management: Manage global liquidity, cash flow, working capital, and debt facilities, while enhancing capital strategies and maintaining strong internal controls.
- Mergers and acquisitions: Support M&A activities for Milliman.
- Procurement: Develop enterprise purchasing strategy and policies.
- Tax: Oversee global tax compliance and structure design.
- Accounting, GL, and Financial Operations: Manage internal controls and the month‑end processes.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience; 5‑10 years in senior finance roles (CFO, CAO, Corporate Controller, etc.).
- CPA or equivalent certification is required.
- Strong leadership skills with executive presence.
- Experience with external audits and internal controls.
- Background in global, multi‑entity environments.
- Exceptional analytical, reasoning, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proven track record in strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally.
- Advanced degree is preferred.
- Familiarity with GAAP and IFRS is a plus.
- Experience in professional services or partnership models is strongly preferred.
- History of leading ERP/finance transformations.
- Experience incorporating AI into finance operations.
- Involvement in M&A diligence and integration.
