- Deliver sustainable tax value through proactive planning and structuring across partnership/pass-through, federal, state, and local tax — enabling business growth while maintaining an appropriate risk posture.
- Serve as the executive owner of tax risk management; establish governance frameworks, decision rights, and escalation protocols; ensure readiness for audits and controversy; and protect the company's standing with regulators and taxing authorities.
- Lead tax accounting and financial reporting, including the ASC 740 GAAP tax provision, deferred tax, uncertain tax positions, and related controls and documentation.
- Provide executive oversight of all federal and state tax audits across entities and jurisdictions.
- Build and lead a high-performing tax team; set multi-year priorities, operating model, and resourcing; and develop capability across income tax, SALT, tax accounting, and tax technology functions.
- Lead the digital transformation of the tax function by developing and executing a tax technology strategy that leverages AI, automation, advanced analytics, and integrated ERP solutions to improve compliance, forecasting, planning, controls, and operational efficiency. Foster a culture of continuous innovation by identifying emerging technologies that reduce manual effort, enhance decision-making, and position the tax function as a strategic business partner.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the SVP, CFO, Finance Directors, and operational leaders on the tax implications of transactions, complex project structures and joint ventures, contracts, and strategic initiatives.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, public and specialty SALT firms; represent McKinstry externally with taxing authorities and monitor emerging federal and state tax legislation, advise executive leadership on business impacts, and help shape industry positions on such.
- Serve as the primary liaison for company owners and their external advisors, translating complex partnership tax matters into clear, actionable insights. Coordinate K-1 reporting, support estate and succession planning discussions, and provide guidance that helps owners understand the tax implications and value drivers of their investment in the company's LLC structures.
