Job Description

The Finance, Planning and Budgeting (FPB) has an outstanding opportunity for a Tax Compliance Analyst to join the Tax Office.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Tax Director, the Tax Compliance Analyst serves as one of the University's tax compliance resources, conducting compliance analysis, regulatory research, reporting, and risk assessment activities to ensure compliance with applicable university, city, state, and federal tax requirements. The position is responsible for the analysis and preparation of tax documents and returns; researching and interpreting regulatory requirements; assessing compliance risks;

working alongside the Tax Director to resolve tax-related inquiries; and providing guidance to University stakeholders. The Tax Compliance Analyst supports compliance education and outreach through the development and maintenance of web-based resources, instructional materials, and training communications. The position evaluates tax compliance processes and controls, recommends corrective actions and process improvements, and contributes to the University's ongoing efforts to maintain effective tax compliance and mitigate regulatory risk.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Taxation, or related field and three years of experience in tax, accounting, compliance, audit, financial reporting, or related field OR Masters in Taxation or Masters of Accounting and one year of experience in accounting, compliance, audit, financial reporting
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree
  • Experience researching, interpreting, and applying federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, or compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information, identify issues, and resolve complex problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience communicating technical information to individuals with varying levels of knowledge and expertise
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a compliance-driven environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to independently learn and apply new technical, regulatory, and technology-based knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in working with diverse groups, stakeholders, and teams; collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented leadership style and the ability to foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and teamwork
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or active progress toward CPA licensure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Washington State excise tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with federal tax requirements applicable to tax-exempt organizations, including unrelated business income tax and information reporting
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting financial, tax, or compliance data to identify trends, issues, and reporting requirements
  • Experience applying continuous improvement methodologies to enhance compliance processes, internal controls, or operational efficiency
  • Experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP), tax compliance, or reporting systems, including K1X, Workday, or Thomson Reuters One Source
  • Experience working in a higher education, nonprofit, governmental, or similarly regulated environment
Pay Range

Pay Range Minimum: $61,812.00 annual Pay Range Maximum: $88,008.00 annual
