School of Medicine Integrated Resources, Post-Award has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Post-Award Grants Manager to join their team. This posting is for multiple positions, with a mix of in-person, remote and hybrid opportunities.

About This Opportunity

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Integrated Resources, Post-Award, the Senior Post-Award Grants Manager is responsible for completing all post-award duties for a designated portfolio of departmental Principal Investigator's (PIs) within SoM Integrated Resources. This senior role manages a complex portfolio, navigating financial and operational management for research projects while ensuring compliance with federal, state, institutional, and sponsor-specific guidelines.

This role involves collaborating with, and mentoring, a geographically dispersed team, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and fostering strong relationships with PIs, research administrators, and external sponsors. The ideal candidate will be able to balance competing priorities, while maintaining operational excellence in a high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities Post-Award Operations - 60%
  • Direct and perform advanced post-award management for a complex portfolio of federal, industry, foundation, and training grants and contracts, ensuring each award is administered in alignment with sponsor terms, regulatory requirements, and University policy.
  • Serve as the primary financial and administrative advisor to faculty and leadership on all post award matters, including budget interpretation, regulatory requirements, award lifecycle strategy, and fiscal planning.
  • Meet regularly with assigned investigators to review financial status, compliance considerations, spending trends, and progress toward award milestones; anticipate issues and provide proactive solutions.
  • Develop, review, and deliver sophisticated financial analyses, forecasts, and reports that enable data-informed fiscal decision making by Principal Investigators and unit leadership.
  • Manage all aspects of complex grant portfolios, including budget oversight, deliverables tracking, reporting deadlines, subaward monitoring, payroll oversight, and closeout activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrative partners on budget development, budget revisions, and detailed analysis of budget-to-actual variances to optimize award utilization.
Compliance and Risk Management - 30%
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, sponsor, and University policies related to post award financial and research administration, with particular emphasis on NIH and other federal agency regulations.
  • Integrate compliance requirements into routine portfolio management operations, ensuring consistent and accurate application across all award types and funding sources.
  • Monitor fiscal and research administrative practices across the portfolio to identify risk areas, emerging trends, and compliance gaps before they scale.
Team Collaboration - 10%
  • Serve as the senior post award subject matter expert and escalation point for complex financial, compliance, and sponsor related issues.
  • Foster effective working relationships with Principal Investigators, departmental administrators, and school leadership to ensure responsive, customer focused service.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and four or more years of related experience.

Additional Qualifications
  • Familiarity with post-award grant and contract processes for both federal and non-federal funding sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail in a complex environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with UW policies and procedures related to research administration and financial management.
  • Experience partnering with UW central operations such as OSP, IACUC, HSD, and GCA.
  • Experience using UW systems, including Workday.
Working Conditions
  • This position may require work beyond a normal work week, including periods of high volume, strict deadlines, and competing priorities.
