Position: Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) - Reentry Spokane

Community Corrections Officer 3

Department of Corrections – Eleanor Chase House Reentry Center, Spokane, WA. Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Mission of the Washington State Department of Corrections: to improve public safety by positively changing lives.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise adults placed in partial confinement at a reentry center in accordance with Washington State law and agency policy.
  • Review available information for each arriving resident, determine documentation and initial programming needs.
  • Conduct PREA screening within 72 hours of arrival; document in OMNI.
  • Complete intake with residents to orient them to reentry center rules and processes.
  • Make decisions concerning resident financial obligations, loss of liberty, sanctions, living arrangements, and referral to treatment and education.
  • Maintain electronic and hard‑copy resident files and update resident plans.
  • Conduct searches of residents, residences, and/or motor vehicles and other collateral locations.
  • Complete resident collateral contacts such as field visits.
  • Engage with residents using communication strategies such as Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions.
  • Make referrals to resident change interventions based on risk‑need assessment.
  • Counsel and inform residents regarding community resources.
  • Enforce supervision/placement conditions and the law.
  • Arrest residents for supervision violations and new law violations in a safe manner.
  • Transport residents to incarceration facilities or designated locations.
  • Identify, collect, document, and maintain evidence ensuring chain of custody.
  • Conduct and document urine and breathalyzer tests.
  • Issue and serve warrants.
  • Investigate and respond to infractions/violations.
  • Write detailed reports on new law violations and supervision violations.
  • Testify at trials or court hearings.
  • Partner with law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Attend and complete mandatory training and meetings on schedule.
  • Act as reentry center manager designee when authorized.
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and three (3) years of professional work experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social service, law enforcement, or closely related field, including at least three of the following: field visits; written correspondence, reports or documents; case assessment and recommendations; referrals to resources; presenting cases in court or hearings.
  • OR equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling seven (7) years.
  • A master’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field substitutes for five (5) years of experience.
  • An associate’s degree substitutes for two (2) years of experience.
  • Staff who are not qualified for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws, maintain firearm qualifications, and complete ongoing training requirements.

Special Requirements
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Submit felony disclosure form and complete criminal background check.
  • Complete Prison Rape Elimination Act forms before employment.
  • Complete mandatory orientation and all required training.
  • Provide residential address, home telephone number, and emergency contact.
  • Become familiar with all Department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Submit to drug testing per agency policy.
  • Armed staff must carry and properly use a department‑issued firearm, maintain eligibility, complete firearms academy, psychological screening, training, requalification, and annual criminal history clearance.
  • Maintain CIT qualifications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as protected by agency policy or law.
  • Possess a valid Washington state driver’s license.
Telework

This position may be allocated for telework. Employees may work from a home or other off‑site location within Washington state provided they have reliable internet or cellular hotspot; on‑site attendance may be required for orientation or occasional in‑person meetings.
