Position Description

The Seattle Police Department is currently hiring entry-level police officers and is offering a $7,500 hiring bonus.

The department seeks individuals who are committed to upholding the ethical, cultural, and ethnic values of Seattle and its residents.

Application Process

Applicants must complete all parts of the Public Safety Civil Service Testing Process by October 15, 2024. This includes submitting a formal application and completing two exam components through the National Testing Network (NTN):

  • Frontline National (Law Enforcement) Exam
  • Public Safety Self-Assessment (Parts 1 &
    2)

The City of Seattle will cover exam fees, and applicants can transfer existing scores from tests taken between October 30, 2023, and October 15, 2024, at no cost.

Physical Agility Test (WAPAT)

Candidates must successfully complete the Washington Physical Agility Test (WAPAT) by October 15, 2024. This test can be scheduled either in Washington state or virtually for out-of-state residents.

Pre-Employment Steps

Candidates who pass the exam must complete the following steps:

  • Background Investigation: A thorough background check will be conducted.
  • Medical Evaluation, Psychological Exam, and Polygraph:
    These exams are required and include drug screening, vision and hearing tests, and a stress EKG.
  • Final Offer of Employment:
    After completing all steps, candidates will receive an official offer of employment.
Eligibility Standards
  • Be at least 20.5 years of age.
  • U.S. citizenship, legal permanent residency, or DACA recipient status required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license is required prior to hire.
  • Applicants must meet drug use, traffic record, criminal history, and employment standards outlined by the Seattle Police Department.
Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain public safety, respond to emergencies, enforce laws, and promote community relations.
  • Operate patrol vehicles and conduct investigations, search and seizure activities, arrests, and evidence collection.
  • Assist accident victims and transport individuals in custody.
