** PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
** The Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering speech/language pathology evaluation and intervention to patients with communication and swallowing disorders, as referred by a licensed provider.  Administer treatments as determined by the evaluation in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. Assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Assist to develop clinical programs for optimum patient care and service. Participate in operational aspects, performance improvement, and Quality Improvement activities within the department. Provide input in formulating budget, assist in evaluation of departmental performance, and take action to remain in budget guidelines.  Ensure that patient charges and documentation are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participate in infection control, equipment training, compliance, safety and educational programs, both at the departmental and organizational level.
1. Perform patient evaluations as related to the reason for referral, collecting relevant case history information, appropriately selecting and implementing evaluation procedures, and accurately interpreting results to develop diagnostic impressions and recommendations.
2. Assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation – make appropriate physician contact for intervention.
3. Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
4. Develop and implement effective treatment programs in consultation with the care team, treating patients in accordance with Speech/Language Pathology standards of care and practice.
5. Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs of the patient and family, and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Provide supportive guidance and education to patient, family, and team for implementation of plan.
6. Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure that patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
7. Complete clinical documentation appropriately and legibly (if hand written), in a timely fashion, according to regulatory guidelines.
8. Manage time efficiently, scheduling and prioritizing work assignments in an organized manner, routinely meeting deadlines.
9. Complete billing and productivity statistics accurately and on a daily basis, including entry into patient database.
10. Maintain productivity requirement of 5-5.5 billed hours per 8-hour day worked.
11. Apply knowledge of Speech Pathology evaluation and interventions, in the areas of speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive communication, augmentative-alternative communication, and swallowing.
12. Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.  Maintain department cleanliness and safety in storage of equipment.
13. Apply knowledge of facility and departmental administrative policies and process improvement plans.
14. Participate in ongoing educational opportunities and professional organizations; present articles and cases at staff meetings.
15. Be flexible and organized; functions in stressful situations.
