Position: Research Scientist/Engineer 3
** Job Description
**** The Division of Medical Genetics has an outstanding opportunity for a highly skilled Research Scientist/Engineer 3(FULL-TIME) in the laboratory of Mary-Claire King PhD.
**** Field of Research:
** Human genetics, RNA sequencing, transcriptional analysis and other functional characterization of newly discovered candidate disease alleles.
** Purpose of the research project(s):
** This individual will work in a team effort as part of the King Laboratory to use transcriptional and other functional analytic tools to study inherited cancers and neuropsychiatric disorders. This position requires a strong background in RNA sequencing and culture of lymphoblast growth and biology, and devising and testing novel approaches in transcriptional analysis.

This position is experimental biology and requires full-time in-person work at the Health Sciences Building, K wing. Remote work is not possible for this position.

Research Sponsor/Stakeholders: NIH
** DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
***** Perform transcriptional analysis of newly identified candidate disease alleles (50%)**
* • Lymphoblast cell culture initiation and growth from patient while cells
• Preparation and quality control of DNA and RNA samples.
• Design of RNA sequencing experiments using short read and long read approaches
• Perform routine analysis of data and assist with troubleshooting and data quality control
*** Perform experimental validation of patient genotypes under CLIA certification conditions (30%)**
* · carry out DNA and RNA sequencing of patient materials for CLIA certification
· collaborate with Genetic Counselor and PI to draft reports for study participants
*** Additional duties (20%)**
* • Present analysis findings at group meetings and national conferences, as appropriate.
• Provide reports to the Principal Investigator on status of projects.
• Perform related duties as required.
** MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS*
* • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related Life Sciences field and four years of relevant experience.
* Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
*** ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS*
* • PhD in Genetics/Genomics, Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent.
• Four or more years of experience in cell and tissue culture, RNA sequencing
• CLIA certification
** DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
* • Must be self-motivated and able to take initiative, work independently, and learn new techniques.
• Ability to work, collaborate and communicate well within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational abilities and laboratory skills, including the ability to keep detailed records of procedures performed and sample tracking.
