Overview

UW’s Division of Plastic Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary Research Analyst 1 which is part of UW School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery. The Research Analyst 1 (Payroll

Title:

Research Analyst 1 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)) under the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey Friedrich is responsible for database creation, data management, chart abstraction, patient recruitment and statistical support for clinical research projects within Soft Tissue Reconstruction.

Duties

As an integral member of the team, the Medical Student Research Fellow primary duties for this position will fall into three categories:

  • Creation of clinical research databases and chart abstraction — 40%
  • Human Subjects Research Activities — 30%
  • Statistical Support and Data Analysis — 30%
Responsibilities and Contributions

The successful candidate will be skilled at building databases along with chart abstraction of documentation for clinical research projects. They will be determined to utilize their skills in supplying statistical support to help clinical research projects move forward.

Mission and Department Context

The Division of Plastic Surgery provides world-class care in areas including Hand and Wrist Problems, Burn Reconstruction, Craniofacial Problems, Tissue Transplantation, Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Surgery, Cancer Reconstruction, Lymphedema Reconstruction, Wound Reconstruction, and Pediatrics. This position contributes to the mission of the Department of Surgery through pivotal support of Plastic Surgery Clinical Research Projects. The Department of Surgery is a large and influential part of UW Medicine with multiple sites and programs.

Minimum Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree including college-level coursework in statistics or one year of work experience in statistics, analysis, or research. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Additional Requirements
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (chart review and data abstraction).
  • Experience with research data management (data security protocols and quality assurance).
  • Ability to adapt to and work collaboratively with people with diverse backgrounds and roles.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience on multiple projects concurrently under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Proactive problem solving and a solutions-oriented approach; ability to work with limited direction/supervision.
  • Experience using tracking systems to communicate progress and organize tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; adept at learning new software.
Desired Qualifications
  • Medical student preferred (on gap year).
  • Experience in an academic or healthcare-related setting and health services/outcomes projects.
  • Broad understanding of hospital systems, patient care, and how research projects are embedded within these settings; knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Database management skills.
  • Proficient with Epic Hyperspace or EMR systems for study eligibility screening, patient enrollment, visit association and invoicing.
