Senior Patient Services Specialist plays a vital role in supporting patient care and clinic operations for the Swedish Cancer Institute across multiple campuses. This position provides comprehensive clinic coordination and patient orientation services while exercising a high degree of independence in managing a wide range of clerical and administrative responsibilities.
This role is dynamic and involves rapid response to patient needs and clinic workflow.
- Coordinate and schedule new patient visits, follow-up clinic appointments, subsequent treatments, and requested diagnostic tests
- Obtain and manage insurance verifications, referrals, and authorizations
- Prepare, maintain, and update patient medical records with accuracy and attention to detail
- Reconcile billing issues and support timely resolution of patient account concerns
- Answer multiple phone lines, triage calls appropriately, and respond to patient, family, and provider inquiries
- Serve as a professional liaison between patients, families, physicians, other departments, and third-party payers
- Act as an informational resource regarding oncology support services available at the Swedish Cancer Institute
- Partner in the orientation and training of new staff members
- Complete responsibilities accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Participate in special projects and additional assignments as directed
- Demonstrate exceptional communication and problem‑solving skills related to patient care and clinic operations
- Exhibit compassion, sensitivity, and emotional stability when working with oncology patients and their families
- Deliver all services using an exceptional customer service approach (AIDET Level II) to optimize the patient experience within the Cancer Institute

Required Qualification- Successful completion of Oncology administrative training within six months
- Medical Terminology Certification or successful completion of a Medical Terminology course within 6 months (180 days) of hire
- 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred (i.e. physician’s office, scheduler, etc.)
- Experienced in obtaining insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations.
- Associate’s Degree Emphasis in Health Care or equivalent educ/experience
