Spanish Medical Interpreter - Seattle, WA job at Language Network. Seattle, WA.

Location: On-site at Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC), Seattle, WA

Schedule: Variable, based on appointment needs (weekday daytime, occasional after-hours)

Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

About the Role:

We are seeking experienced and compassionate Spanish Medical Interpreters to provide in-person interpretation services at a well-known Cancer center in Seattle. Interpreters play a vital role in ensuring effective communication between providers and Spanish-speaking patients throughout their treatment journey.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide accurate and complete interpretation between Spanish and English in a variety of clinical settings, including but not limited to:

    • Consultations

    • Imaging procedures (e.g., CT scans, mammograms)

    • Infusion and treatment appointments

    • Pre‑op and post‑op meetings

    • Clinical trials and research visits

  • Support communication between patients, families, nurses, physicians, researchers, and administrative staff.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and protocols.

  • Accurately document completed assignments as required by the project.

  • Collaborate with scheduling staff to accept appointments in advance or on short notice, when available.

Requirements:
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish (native‑level fluency).

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional medical interpreting experience.

  • Certification preferred:
    WA DSHS
    , CCHI
    , or NBCMI
    .

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and sensitivity to cultural nuances in healthcare.

  • Ability to remain neutral, professional, and compassionate in emotionally complex situations.

  • Punctual, reliable, and responsive to scheduling communication.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to commute to locations within Seattle.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience interpreting in oncology, hematology, or other specialty care.

  • Familiarity with Epic and/or electronic medical records systems.

  • Flexible availability to cover recurring appointments or last‑minute requests.
