DescriptionThe Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) invite applicants for a lab-based physician-scientist faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The position will be dual appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division (TST) of Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology.
Appointment to the full-time faculty at the UW would be at the rank of assistant professor without tenure due to funding. Specific rank at the UW will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).
Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The successful candidate will have expertise in transplant immunology, computational modeling of T cell clonality, and microbiome science and be engaged in laboratory-based research focused on developing novel interventions for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and immune reconstitution post-hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Successful NIH K08 or R01 level funding is required. The selected individual will foster an environment of collaboration and productivity in the field of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and bone marrow transplantation therapies for hematological malignancies.
Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will include coordination of informal teaching and formal didactics with affiliated training and fellowship programs, for clinicians, and the general medical community. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch. The role does not include an independent laboratory space in which to conduct research but will have the use of an existing laboratory space from a senior faculty member at Fred Hutch.
