Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Pacific Northwest Region (OR, WA, & AK)
The MSL is a field-based, customer-facing, non‑promotional medical and scientific position within the Pacific Northwest area. The MSL’s key objective is to create impact through advancing clinical practice within the assigned territory, leading to improved patient outcomes. The MSL serves as a scientific expert in HIV treatment and prevention, engages with healthcare providers and medical experts, manages and develops their territory, and executes all relevant activities in alignment with the medical strategic plan.
Responsibilities- Scientific Expertise: Build strong scientific acumen and serve as primary point of contact for medical and scientific inquiries in HIV treatment and prevention, supporting scientific engagement for territory. Provide advanced scientific and clinical knowledge to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with external experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Support scientific discussions and collaborations to advance ViiV Medical’s objectives, including emerging data, clinical trial activities, patient journey barriers, market dynamics, unmet medical needs, pipeline discussions, and product education.
- Clinical Insights: Gather and relay insights from the field to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies. Provide feedback on ViiV products and services.
- Education and Training: Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training sessions for healthcare professionals and internal teams. Support creation of educational materials and provide scientific training to colleagues.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all activities comply with regulatory guidelines and company policies. Maintain accurate records of interactions and outcomes.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a role model of ViiV’s culture and values. Mentor and coach new or less experienced MSLs and lead scientific or strategic projects.
- Safety Communication: Disseminate important safety information to healthcare professionals as directed by Medical Affairs or Research and Development teams.
- Agility and Adaptability: Interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including investigators, societies, advocacy groups, and formulary decision-makers.
- Clinical Development Support: Assist in clinical development activities, including GSK and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS). Work with Clinical Teams to improve site performance and provide insights into research interests.
- National Meetings: Attend national and regional scientific/medical meetings to gain medical voice of the customer on recent data presented on products and disease states of interest to ViiV.

Conduct business with a One‑ViiV mindset and regularly engage across matrix stakeholders. - Administration: Execute all responsibilities and training (e.g., Veeva CRM, email, expense report mylearnings) in a timely manner, including profiling core customers and ensuring up-to-date information in the CRM.
- Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or APP).
- 3+ years of clinical experience in HIV or infectious disease.
- Stakeholder management experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel 40–60%.
- HIV field medical experience in the U.S.
- Proven track record of high performance within field‑based medical affairs.
- Strong grounding in clinical, medical, and pharmaceutical science with demonstrated ability to assimilate detailed knowledge quickly.
- Experience evaluating and communicating evidence‑based medicine with strong scientific presentation skills.
- Leadership skills and business acumen, stakeholder management, and successful project participation.
- Excellent mentoring of fellow MSLs and leadership of complex field‑based medical team initiatives.
- Effective one‑on‑one and group communication skills.
