The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for an Employment Training Specialist 2 to join their team.

About This Opportunity

Reporting to Katherine Bournelis, the Employment Training Specialist 2 is responsible for maintaining a caseload of DDA participants, meeting billing goals, conducting intake and follow-up interviews with potential participants to determine eligibility, developing and implementing successful job matches for client and employer, negotiate potential accommodations and supports. Provide training to employers, supervisors, and coworkers as needed for best practices to provide natural supports for participants’ success.

Make recommendations for additional supports as needed to overcome barriers and be successful. Ongoing long-term support and direct one-on-one job coaching.

Provide training to employers, supervisors, and coworkers as needed for best practices to provide natural supports for participants’ success.

Make recommendations for additional supports as needed to overcome barriers and be successful. Ongoing long-term support and direct one-on-one job coaching.



Key Responsibilities

Provide direct support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities (65%):

  • Carry a caseload of clients as assigned. Under general direction, coordinate job development, placement, training and continued employment of assigned clients.
  • Work with employers, parents, agencies and other support personnel to ensure successful and equitable employment for clients with disabilities.
  • Provide job search and placement activities for clients.
  • Keep accurate case notes and proper paperwork for city, county and state agencies per contract requirements to ensure that billing is accurate.
Provide outreach and marketing of all program services (15%):
  • Under general direction, assist in the development of new and/or expanded programs relating to employment of persons with disabilities.
  • Provide outreach and marketing of all Program services.
  • Represent the Program to community organizations/task forces, etc.
  • Prepare and present educational information and training to employers, rehabilitation counselors, families, and other community members to promote hiring of individuals with disabilities.
  • Participate in job fairs, attend Chamber of Commerce meetings and other service organizations to marker and make employer contacts.
  • Participate in program development and marketing projects as assigned.
  • Consult with leadership on new and expanded services, such as Pre-ETS, IL contracts,
Community Inclusion and group work for adults with disabilities (15%).

Maintain program related materials and supplies and analyze the need for and purchase of any needed supplies (5%).



Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.



Minimum Qualifications

Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Department.
  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, rehabilitation, vocational counseling, or related field AND one year of experience as an Employment Training Specialist I.
Work Conditions

Job duties include meeting clients at their job site, or preferred location, and may need to transport clients for assessment activities. A valid driver’s license is recommended.
