Associate or Full Professor Without Tenure (WOT), Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics

The University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, along with the Seattle Children's Research Institute Center for Child Health, Behavior & Development, invites applications for a full-time Associate Professor or Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, on the faculty-scientist track. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.

Associate Professor and Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Anticipated start date:
Spring or Summer 2027.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to candidates who have an established, funded research program focused on social media and children's mental health and candidates who possess expertise in social media and child mental health including innovative approaches to help promote well-being. This may include research on child and family behaviors around social media use, brain development, mental health, policy and approaches to social media regulation, device use in educational settings, and digital interventions.

The candidate is expected to sustain a funded research program at Seattle Children's Research Institute. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department's teaching and mentoring mission.

This position provides an opportunity to work at the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development (CHBD) at Seattle Children's Research Institute. Applicants will have a faculty appointment at the University of Washington and will join a group of highly collaborative scientists at CHBD studying a range of interdisciplinary topic areas such as pain management, sleep health, environmental health, suicide prevention, and mental and behavioral health, with expertise in community-engaged methods, digital health, behavioral science, health services research, and implementation science.

SCRI is ranked 4th in NIH pediatric research funding and provides a rich, vibrant, and collaborative environment. SCRI has excellent facilities that foster close relationships between clinical, translational, and basic science researchers. In 2025, SCRI had more than $200 million in extramural research awards (with about $40 million awarded to CHBD). With a workforce greater than 2,400, the research institute fosters a cutting-edge academic environment, supporting multidisciplinary research, collaboration, and professional development.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. Within the Department of Pediatrics, the Division of General Pediatrics has over 70 faculty and administrative staff, with strengths in pediatric health services and health promotion research, teaching/mentoring, and provision of pediatric primary care across numerous sites.

The Department of Pediatrics and Division of General Pediatrics are closely affiliated with Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children's, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.

This position could, although is not required to and only if available, provide clinical service and consultation within pediatric primary care affiliated with the University of Washington and/or Seattle Children's. This clinical service may include direct patient care in faculty practice as well as precepting residents.

The base salary range for this position will be:
Associate Professor: $13,750 - $21,667 per month ($165,000 - $260,004 annually) Professor: $16,667 - $25,000 per month ($200,004 - $300,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The successful candidate will have earned a doctorate degree (MD or PhD or equivalent) with documented expertise in social media and youth mental health. The applicant must already be an Associate Professor or Professor or equivalent or soon be expected to transition to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
