Salary$23.46 – 35.03 per hour, payable bi-weekly. The salary scale for this position is between steps 0 and 19, depending on experience. This position is non-exempt. Job SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting pharmacists by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of medications. This position involves performing various pharmacy-related tasks under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of medications to patients. The pharmacy technician will also assist with inventory management, medication storage, and patient interaction, contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the pharmacy team.
Job Responsibilities- Assist pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of prescribed medications in accordance with the physician’s instructions
- Accurately label medications and ensure proper storage and inventory management
- Maintain medication records and update patient profiles in the pharmacy system
- Assist in the processing of medication orders and prescriptions, including verifying drug names, dosage forms, and patient information
- Provide guidance and information to patients on proper medication usage, dosage, and side effects as directed by the pharmacist
- Perform routine checks on inventory levels and assist in ordering medication and supplies to ensure availability
- Ensure the safe and accurate handling of controlled substances and other prescription medications in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Assist in the preparation of intravenous medications and other specialized compounding tasks as needed
- Manage and process medication refills, ensuring timely dispensing and accurate record-keeping
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pharmacy environment
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding medication-related issues
- Monitor expiration dates and ensure proper disposal of expired medications according to pharmacy policy
- Assist in the operation of the pharmacy's computer systems for prescription filling, medication order tracking, and inventory management
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay up to date with pharmacy practices, policies, and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising pharmacist or pharmacy manager
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a healthcare setting, preferably in a retail, hospital, or clinical environment
- In-depth knowledge of pharmaceuticals, medication dispensing procedures, and drug interactions
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in all tasks
