Senior Manager, HRIS, Benefits and Total Rewards

Overview

The Bezos Earth Fund seeks an experienced leader to manage payroll, benefits, HRIS, and compensation programs. The role ensures compliance, equity, and alignment with industry best practices, driving continuous improvement while serving as a trusted advisor across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Payroll Management
    • Oversee full‑cycle payroll processing for U.S. staff and coordinate with PEO payroll provider(s).
    • Ensure compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local payroll laws, including tax, deductions, overtime, and benefits with holdings.
    • Handle payroll reconciliations, audits, corrections, and system configurations.
    • Support employee inquiries and payroll calendar communications.
  • Benefits Administration
    • Design, select, and administer health, dental, vision, retirement, life/disability insurance, leave, and wellness initiatives.
    • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
    • Manage annual open enrollment, onboarding, life events, and offboarding.
    • Partner with brokers, vendors, and third‑party administrators for contracts, renewals, and cost management.
    • Support FMLA leave administration and work with leave management vendors.
    • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
    • Serve as primary contact for benefits inquiries.
    • Maintain benefits data and collaborate with the Chief People Officer and broker.
  • HR Systems and Data Analytics
    • Lead HRIS with vendors, maintaining configurations and integrations.
    • Maintain accurate employee data for hires, terminations, promotions, and benefits enrollments.
    • Develop reports and dashboards for HR metrics.
    • Support system upgrades, user training, and documentation.
  • Compensation Strategy
    • Implement salary structure, job classifications, and market benchmarking.
    • Lead annual compensation reviews and salary planning.
    • Ensure internal pay equity and compliance.
    • Provide benchmarking and support recommendations for new roles.
  • HR Operations, Compliance & Reporting
    • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and industry trends.
    • Ensure accurate reporting for compliance and audits.
    • Analyze data to assess program effectiveness.
    • Enforce HR policies and identify process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field;
    Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 8–10 years of progressive HR operations/total rewards experience.
  • Proven payroll, benefits, HRIS, and compensation expertise; strong U.S. legal compliance knowledge.
  • Experience with salary benchmarking, job evaluation, and data analytics.
  • Excellent communication, influence, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS/Payroll systems and compensation software.
  • Non‑profit sector experience preferred.
  • Preferred certifications: CCP, SHRM or similar.
  • High integrity, confidentiality and strong ethical judgment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Prolonged desk work and computer use.
  • Potential extended hours during urgent situations.
  • Based in Washington, D.C.; limited domestic/international travel.
Salary Range

$175,000 – $220,000
