Purpose, Strategy & Performance

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is in search of our next dynamic, collaborative, and innovative Deputy Director of Human Resources. The Deputy Director of Human Resources serves as part of the PAO’s leadership team and is a trusted thought partner to the Director of Human Resources. This is a high‑impact leadership position that is responsible for bridging strategy with execution through managing day‑to‑day human resources operations and projects.

Functioning with a high level of autonomy, the Deputy Director will regularly represent PAO Human Resources in cross‑functional settings, serve as a senior advisor to division leadership and supervisors, escalating and consulting with the Director of Human Resources on the most serious human resources matters in the organization.

As a separately elected department, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has an internal Human Resources team that provides a high level of service delivery to our team of approximately 550 employees. We partner closely and collaborate with other separately elected departments and the executive branch, including but not limited to the King County Department of Human Resources. We are seeking an experienced human resources professional who will join us in our mission to do Justice and ensure care, accountability, and compassion every step of the way.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for directly supervising the HR team and ensuring operational excellence through high‑quality, equitable, and legally compliant HR practices across the office. Passion for continuous improvement, creative and high‑quality problem‑solving skills, exceptional judgment, professional discretion, and cultural humility are critical components to succeeding in this role.

The first year in this role will be spent working closely with the HR Director to develop alignment and apply sweeping updates/modernization of standard operating procedures across all HR functions.

Strategic Partnership & Leadership
  • Partner with the HR director on workforce strategy, vision, organizational development, and culture initiatives.
  • Translate strategic priorities into operational plans, action, tools, and practices that can be implemented office wide.
  • Participate in PAO leadership discussions and represent PAO HR in meetings, committees, and workforce initiatives.
Human Resources Operations & Program Oversight
  • Oversee day‑to‑day HR operations and the HR team’s workload, striving for excellence by ensuring high‑quality, consistent service delivery.
  • Identify operational risks and proactively recommend solutions.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop HR staff, nurturing relationships and a healthy team culture while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional development.

    • Employee & labor relations and performance management
