Hours of Work: Standard Monday–Friday workweek, 8am–5pm. Occasional need for weekend or after-hours work as related to events and other projects.
The Seattle Aquarium, a leading marine conservation organization, is looking for an Organizational Learning Manager to support the Aquarium’s mission by fostering a culture of continuous learning, growth, and inclusion, grounded in our SALISH values. Reporting to the Senior Director of People & Culture, this role leads the organization’s equity and inclusion learning efforts and provides strategic direction for overall organizational development.
The Learning Manager has a direct impact on how the Aquarium lives its values by designing and facilitating learning experiences that help staff in all levels build shared understanding, develop skills, and grow together. Partnering closely with the Equity Team, managers, and staff across the organization, this role combines inclusive learning design principles with strong facilitation and strategic planning to support individual, team, and organizational effectiveness.
This role collaborates with administrative support, and is responsible for setting learning strategies, priorities, and direction as well as overseeing day-to-day tasks.
- Partner with the Aquarium’s Executive Team and Equity Team to achieve specific equity and inclusion learning across the organization that is outcomes focused.
- Partner with the Aquarium’s staff to foster a culture that promotes trust, welcomes and respects team members from different walks of life, and enhances the sense of belonging.
- Design, build, and facilitate programmatic curriculum for the staff members of the Equity Team, that empowers their shared understanding, skill-building, and sustained engagement.
- Coordinate and facilitate organization-wide equity learning through a variety of formats, including facilitated training, workshops, book clubs, informal learning opportunities, and other educational experiences.
- Assess learning outcomes and identify gaps to determine the effectiveness of learning opportunities provided across the organization and adjust outcomes accordingly for improved efficacy.
- Provide ongoing support for leaders and teams to integrate equity learning into their everyday work systems and practices.
- Support long‑term engagement and momentum around equity learning by reinforcing key concepts and adapting approaches as organizational needs evolve.
- Continuously build knowledge of equity, inclusion, and adult learning practices and apply them in ways that are relevant and accessible to a diverse group.
- Develop methods for measuring organizational effectiveness of equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging initiatives and practices.
- Stay updated and informed on professional developments and advances in the field of DEI, through participation in local professional groups and/or other channels.
- Provide strategic leadership for the Aquarium’s organizational learning approach, ensuring learning and development efforts are aligned with organizational priorities, values, and long‑term goals.
- Guide the effective use of the organizational learning system (LMS, currently in our ADP HRIS), including establishing standards, priorities, and success measures, while partnering with content creators and administrative support on system maintenance and tracking.
- Partner with leaders, managers, and teams to assess learning needs, identify gaps, and co‑create learning strategies that support individual, team, and organizational effectiveness.
- Support the development of managers as people leaders, with an emphasis on inclusive leadership and equitable decision‑making by helping shape learning pathways, tools, and experiences that strengthen leadership capability.
