The University of Washington School of Dentistry Office of the Dean has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (50% FTE) Academic Human Resources Manager to join their team.
About this OpportunityReporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Academic Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing the cyclical activities of Human Resources academic personnel, including appointments, annual performance reviews, and separations.
The Academic Human Resources Manager is a member of the SODHR team, which helps define internal policies and procedures and serves as the liaison with other School of Dentistry departments and University offices. The Academic Human Resources Manager must be able to communicate with diverse groups (faculty and staff) and collaborate with professionals from different disciplines and perspectives. The Academic Human Resources Manager partners with the Director of Human Resources, Human Resources Manager, HR/Payroll Specialist, Student Assistant, and the executive support team in the Dean’s Office.
They actively participate in the program’s process improvements and regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion while working to support human resources operations.
This position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, possesses strong organizational skills and is able to maintain confidentiality.
It requires an individual who is familiar with human resources operations and related policies and procedures. The successful candidate should exercise initiative to research issues, gather and present information to the Director of Human Resources, be comfortable with identifying and pursuing creative problem solving, as well as being able to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The salary provided below is based on a full-time rate and will be prorated for this part-time, 50% FTE opportunity.
$86,856 - $101,328 per year ($43,428 - $50,664 per year)

- Manage appointments (ongoing). Work with academic administrators to ensure faculty appointment packets are in compliance with University of Washington (UW) Academic Personnel and Faculty (APF) requirements; if applicable, send appointment packet to the school’s Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) Committee for review and vote; prepare dean’s recommendation; enter appointment in Workday.
- Collaborate on annual faculty reappointments (Winter Quarter). Work with the HR/Payroll Specialist to ensure compliance with UW APF procedures and UW School of Dentistry (UWSOD) training requirements.
- Manage annual faculty reviews (Spring Quarter). Update forms; collaborate with the dean’s Executive Assistant on dean’s direct reports; draft announcements and reminders and send to academic departments; oversee submissions and ensure documents are stored electronically. Coordinate effort reporting.
- Manage academic reviews:
- Assist with faculty promotion and tenure activities (Fall Quarter). Track mandatory promotion review due dates.
- Provide administrative support for the APT Committee (Fall Quarter unless ad hoc projects needed). Prepare agenda; take meeting notes; follow up on action items as directed by the chair. Draft annual report.
- Manage
1460 Outside Professional Work for Compensation (Summer Quarter). Review, update, and send annual announcement; review chair-approved 1460 request forms for accuracy before sending to dean for approval; send forms to the UW Office of Research (UWOR) for final approval; track progress on approval routing; notify departments of approvals, and maintain records of UWOR-approved forms. - Manage sabbatical leave (Fall Quarter). Prepare and send announcements to faculty. Using Interfolio RPT, download department submissions and send to dean. Submit dean’s recommendation in Interfolio RPT.
- Manage faculty retiree rehire (Fall Quarter). Update UWSOD retiree rehire form. Review and send annual announcements to chairs. Verify with the UW Benefits Office if retirees have vested reemployment rights. Review requests and forward to dean for approval. Prepare…
