Senior Content Officer, User Onboarding – Gates Foundation, Seattle, WA

The Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) is an embedded research institute with the Gates Foundation. IDM develops, uses, and shares computational modeling tools and promotes quantitative decision‑making to support global efforts to eradicate infectious diseases.
Your RoleThis Seattle‑based role is responsible for defining and executing the strategy for user onboarding within IDM’s software team, ensuring an excellent experience for LMIC researchers worldwide. The role includes collaboration across research and software teams and leveraging AI to improve team productivity.
What You’ll Do- Strategy:
Create and maintain the user onboarding strategy with clear outcomes and milestone‑based execution. - User Personas:
Define user personas and incorporate voice of user feedback into execution plans. - Technology:
Act as subject‑matter expert on the latest technology tools and approaches for compelling user experiences. - Workflows:
Design and implement clear workflows for documentation, standards, and guidelines, covering API documentation, user documentation, code samples, and extensibility guides. - Communications:
Create guidelines for authors to produce and share manuscripts, scientific research, and website/social content; consult on outlines and journal selection. - Information Management:
Design and implement an internal and external information‑management strategy across SharePoint, Git Hub, and IDM website.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of organization change management and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Experience working directly with engineering and research teams in editing and writing capacities.
- Advanced experience organizing, editing, and scoping research publications.
- Project planning experience to scope and deliver editorial work‑back plans and schedules.
- Experience managing contractors and freelancers.
- Experience translating highly technical, scientific work for multiple audiences via presentations, reports, papers, articles, blog posts, and social media.
- Passion for “science as a public good.”
- Must be legally eligible to work in the location; no visa sponsorship.
$154,200 – $231,400 USD (Seattle/Washington D.C. range: $168,200 – $252,200 USD)
