The mission of the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics is focused on fundamental discoveries in systems neuroscience. We are interested in how the brain builds our understanding of the complex world to guide the flexible behaviors that address our biological needs. The answers will be in terms of defined neuron types and circuits interacting across the whole brain and body. We will develop next-generation methods and theories and employ a team-based approach for discovery neuroscience.

Knowledge, data, models and tools will be widely shared, in part to support the development of therapies for brain disorders.

The Allen institute of Neural Dynamics is seeking an Associate Scientific Project and Alliance Manager
. This individual will support ground-breaking projects, in collaboration with the Allen Institute of Brain Science. The Associate Scientific Project and Alliance Manager will provide the operational structure necessary for a multi-disciplinary team to drive discoveries based on mapping brain-wide neural circuits using cutting-edge optical imaging, neurophysiology and behavior.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the Project Manager to ensure the successful execution of the projects
  • Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines, using project management best practices and tools
  • Provide an efficient and flexible collaborative environment to manage internal project team communication and collaboration
  • Work with science leads to organize internal project reviews
  • Facilitate efficient communication between scientific and administrative groups

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of degree and experience
  • 3 years' of project coordination experience in a scientific or technical environment, OR 2 years' at the Project Coordinator III level within the Allen Institute
  • Experience in the use of project management, collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting tools

Preferred Education and Experience

  • PhD preferred.
  • 2+ years experience in project management, beyond an academic laboratory/postdoctoral setting or 3+ years experience in project coordination, beyond an academic laboratory/postdoctoral setting
  • Formal Project Management training and/or PMP certification
  • Experience navigating complex group dynamics, and working with scientific, engineering and administrative stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask amongst multiple projects simultaneously
  • Advanced ability to translate scientific and technical subject matter into concise, clear communications that are understood by technical and non-technical leaders and constituents
  • Experience with federal/private funding agencies and scientific alliance management
