You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. We collaborate across the organization to deliver safety, security, and infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
The Core Networking team is looking for a Sr. Network Development Engineer to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Engineer, you will build, deploy, and scale Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global data centers.
Key Job Responsibilities- Create network designs, services, and deployment procedures that solve complex requirements.
- Decide with leadership on projects that best support the team’s mission.
- Design ahead of customer or technology needs, creating, defending, and documenting High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents, influencing technology roadmaps, testing, and providing support for deployment.
- Create and automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
- Work closely with internal customers on designs/solutions, bringing concepts to production.
- Work in a 24x7 on‑call rotation, with ability to drive into the workplace for critical events.
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
AWS NFE (Network Fabric Engineering) owns datacenter network services that provide unconstrained connectivity to customers such as EC2, EBS, S3, and Amazon CDO Services. They own the networks internal to datacenters end‑to‑end, including scaling and operational functions, for both traditional datacenters and newer offerings such as Outposts and Local Zones.

- Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
- 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience with IP protocols, network analysis, and troubleshooting.
- 8+ years experience with major internet routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, ISIS) in a large enterprise environment.
- 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
- 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux, and scripting in Python, Perl, or shell.
- A Master’s in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
