Job Description

NOTE:

This position is offered as a hybrid role in the Seattle, WA area. You must be willing to work in office at the Nordstrom Seattle office for a minimum of 4 days per week to be considered for this position.

As a Senior Engineer 2, you’ll be part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals who apply scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions which advance critical supply chain operations while meeting the needs of the business. The scope and accountability at this level is responsible for the quality of a team’s work, ensuring that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution.

In the Supply Chain Technology org, our teams build and maintain systems that sit at the intersection of speed, intelligence, and customer experience—foundational to Nordstrom’s company-wide Winning with Speed strategy. We deliver engineering solutions across Supply Chain Planning, Fulfillment Optimization, and Transportation Technology that directly influence hundreds of millions of dollars in annual spend, shape customer promise accuracy, and materially impact EBIT.

Responsibilities
  • Design and architect solutions across forecasting, fulfillment optimization, and transportation systems that enable Nordstrom to operate faster and smarter.
  • Drive technical decision‑making and support development teams in building scalable, resilient solutions that work seamlessly across supply‑chain platforms while maintaining code quality, design consistency, and operational excellence.
  • Derive technical solutions, drive implementation of best practices across platforms, ensure performance and reliability, and maintain high standards for code quality and business impact across all supply‑chain touchpoints.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, business stakeholders, program and product managers to make technical decisions and influence priorities and tradeoffs that enable solutions to achieve short‑ and long‑term supply‑chain objectives.
  • Champion new techniques such as AI/ML tools and automation to accelerate development and drive operational intelligence across the organization.
  • Take ownership of systems or designs that span multiple people’s work—including forecasting models, fulfillment routing, or transportation optimization—breaking work into smaller tasks for more junior engineers to support.
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing, and automation while finding opportunities to continuously improve them.
  • Drive design and code reviews, ensuring the team ships high‑quality, scalable, maintainable, and well‑tested code.
  • Maintain a Dev Ops mindset, promote cloud‑native solutions while implementing and supporting monitoring, alerting, CI/CD pipelines, and the team’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Partner with Data Science and analytics teams to operationalize AI/ML models and advanced analytics in production supply‑chain environments.
  • Navigate vendor partnerships and platform ecosystems—including third‑party WMS, TMS, or planning tools—to maximize business value and integration quality.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering or technology roles.
  • 2+ years of experience in retail, supply chain, logistics, fulfillment, or a related domain (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex, distributed systems in a production environment.
  • Hands‑on experience architecting event‑driven systems and Tier‑1 services built for high availability and throughput at scale.
  • Strong technical judgment with experience guiding architecture across scalable, cloud‑native services.
  • Experience with supply‑chain systems such as WMS, TMS, OMS, LMDS, or Supply Chain Planning platform.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across Product, Operations, and Data Science stakeholders to translate strategy into executable technical solutions.
  • Track record of driving code quality, testing, and engineering best practices across a team.
  • Experience working with third‑party platforms, vendors, or large technology ecosystems.
