Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing team of software and data engineers
    • Partner with product, analytics, and platform teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
    • Drive hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development for a growing engineering organization
  • Design and operate cloud‑native data architectures on AWS
    • Leverage services such as EKS, S3, RDS/Aurora Postgre

      SQL, and Terraform for repeatable, auditable deployments
    • Manage cost optimization, security, and performance across cloud data workloads in partnership with platform engineering teams
  • Containerize data workloads on Amazon EKS
    • Define standards for deploying and operating data services on Kubernetes, including autoscaling, resource governance, and CI/CD integration
    • Champion observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and alerting across data services
  • Develop data‑centric APIs and operate data services at scale
    • Architect and guide the development of low‑latency, reliable APIs that serve downstream consumers
    • Establish data quality frameworks, including validation, anomaly detection, and monitoring across critical data products
  • Drive adoption and evolution of the Databricks platform
    • Cluster management, governance, and optimization of Spark workloads
    • Adopt dbt as the standard transformation layer and establish modeling, testing, and documentation standards
  • Orchestrate data pipelines with Apache Airflow
    • Ensure pipelines are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with SLA expectations
  • Execute effective software development methodologies and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Own velocity, quality, and reliability metrics and recognize that they are complementary and mutually reinforcing
    • Resolve root causes of systemic issues across technology, process, and team dynamics
  • Contribute to product roadmaps by balancing near‑term business impact with long‑term platform health and scalability
    • Collaborate with product, analytics, and platform teams to define data strategy and translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions
  • Integrate AI coding agents into engineering workflows
    • Fluent and opinionated use of AI agents, continuously raising the bar on how they are used and overseeing quality of agent‑produced code
Qualifications
  • ~7+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years leading and mentoring engineering teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field
  • Strong experience designing and operating cloud‑native data platforms on AWS, including Kubernetes‑based workloads and API services
  • Deep technical knowledge of modern data stacks, including Databricks, dbt, Airflow, relational databases, and SQL performance optimization
  • Systems‑engineering mindset, understanding end‑to‑end data flows and driving improvements across ingestion, processing, and serving layers
  • Track record of delivering commitments, balancing speed, quality, and long‑term maintainability
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence product, engineering, and business stakeholders
  • Continuous learning mentality, regularly evaluating new tools and technologies to improve engineering effectiveness and data capabilities
Benefits
  • Base salary range:
    New York $240,519‑$384,830, Seattle $226,893‑$363,029
