Overview

The Core Networking team is looking for a Sr. Network Development Manager to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing teams that build, deploy and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that empowers you to own ideas to completion.

AWS Core Networking focuses on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. They own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected, balancing efficiency, performance and reliability to provide access to applications and data. The AWS Networking team develops and operates the network platform for all of Amazon, including e-commerce products and cloud computing solutions.

As part of this Network Development Manager role, you will lead a global team aligned with one of our network fabrics. Direct reports will include Network Development Engineers responsible for designing and optimizing the future state of the global Amazon network. The Topology team identifies optimal and efficient designs to manage traffic flows, failure scenarios and capacity; conducts deep-dive and root-cause analyses of events to prevent customer impact.

As a Network Development Manager for the Building Connectivity Engineering Network team in AWS Networking, you will lead a team of 6+ Network Development Engineers and deliver solutions that are available, scalable, cost-efficient and with low latency. You will apply strategy, network design and planning, capacity management, project management, recruiting and team development to build a high-performing team that delivers an exceptional customer experience.

You will join and contribute to a diverse team of professionals, collaborating across AWS to maintain safety, security, and reliability while controlling costs.

Key responsibilities
  • Operational Excellence: drive processes and standards to improve efficiency, ensure compliance with policies, and support internal customers.
  • Network Measurement: drive quality into metrics, including issue tracking, capacity, vendor equipment/failures analysis, and network performance.
  • Performance Management & Team Health: manage performance and career development, conduct one-on-one meetings, mentor in both technical and soft skills, coordinate training, and oversee day-to-day operations and 8x7x365 coverage.
  • Incident & Change Management: drive improvements to tools and processes, scale practices to support platform and customer growth.
  • Recruiting & Hiring: lead hiring, coordinate with recruiters, conduct initial screens, provide guidance in interview loops, and ensure training for new hires.
  • Automation: drive opportunities to automate day-to-day operations, collaborate with software teams to align roadmaps and enable engineers to create automation tasks within software frameworks.
  • Goal Setting & Delivery: define and deliver strategic goals for the team and the Topology group; align resources and communicate status to leadership.
