Role Overview

As Senior Director of Developer Ecosystem, you will lead the strategy and execution of IonQ’s developer relations, open‑source contributions, and community engagement. Your mission is to create a developer‑friendly environment that attracts quantum developers and technical experts, enabling breakthroughs in quantum information science on IonQ systems.

Responsibilities
  • Developer Ecosystem Strategy and Execution: Own and drive the end‑to‑end strategy encompassing community, open‑source engagement, and developer experience.
  • Open‑Source Leadership: Engage with standards bodies, foundations, and partners to guide governance, benchmarking, and contributions.
  • Developer Tools

    Roadmap:

    Define strategy and distribution for APIs, SDKs, and tooling that evolve with hardware performance.
  • Documentation and

    Education:

    Set quality standards for user‑facing documentation, learning tools, and community resources.
  • Adoption and Metrics: Own adoption and conversion metrics across platform usage, community growth, and product engagement.
  • Team Building: Build and lead a multidisciplinary organization, starting as a coach‑player and expanding as impact grows.
Requirements
  • 12+ years in developer relations, ecosystem strategy, open‑source leadership, or technical product management.
  • Deep passion for quantum computing and its impact on end‑users.
  • Track record of building scalable developer communities, especially at the hardware–software intersection.
  • Expertise in open‑source strategy and governance.
  • Experience building and leading multidisciplinary teams (Dev Rel, Education, Engineering).
  • Strong technical fluency: credible engagement with researchers, compiler engineers, and application developers.
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable outcomes tied to adoption and conversion.
  • Exceptional communication skills to rally stakeholders and inspire teams and communities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Key leadership in a quantum computing ecosystem (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq, Penny Lane).
  • Familiarity with NISQ‑era tooling, quantum error correction, and fault‑tolerant needs.
  • Network of relationships across quantum hardware, software, and open‑source ecosystems.
  • Experience with government funding agencies (DOE, DARPA, NSF).
  • Background in major software foundation or industry consortium projects.

Location: Bothell, WA

Travel: Up to 20%

Compensation: Base salary $265,423 - $347,507 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, unlimited PTO, parental leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend.
