Do you enjoy designing, operating, and implementing large-scale networks? This role plays a key part in connecting Amazon with the global Internet and ensuring robust, scalable connectivity across our data centers and services.
Networks you build will be fail‑proof, infinitely scalable, and effortlessly managed.
- Design network architectures, services, and deployment procedures that meet complex requirements.
- Identify and prioritize projects that align with team objectives and organizational strategy.
- Develop High‑Level Design (HLD) and Low‑Level Design (LLD) documents, collaborate with stakeholders, and influence technology roadmaps.
- Automate deployment processes to improve quality and velocity.
- Collaborate with internal customers to bring designs from concept through production.
- Perform high‑quality network and systems operations, including deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best‑practice application, and optimization.
- Maintain technical documentation and support internal/external customer interactions.
Internet Edge engineers evolve routing policy, implement traffic‑engineering solutions, expand peering footprints, secure the front door of the Internet, and architect hardware platforms that support Amazon products worldwide. They develop automation, write software, and work with many partner teams to continuously improve Internet connectivity for capacity delivery, configuration deployment, impairment detection, and traffic optimization.
- Work in a 24/7 on‑call rotation, with the ability to respond to critical events.
- Manage customers during problem resolution while operating efficiently under pressure.
- Maintain focus during scheduled work hours, taking appropriate breaks and staying alert.
- Travel to data center, network sites, and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
The Internet Edge organization provides high‑performance Internet connectivity for a wide range of use cases, including retail, video streaming, content delivery, DNS, AWS services, consumer devices, and more. As part of AWS Networking, the team connects Amazon to the global Internet, delivering best‑in‑class performance, availability, security, and cost.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience applying IP protocols, network analysis, and troubleshooting.
- 8+ years of experience with major Internet routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, ISIS) in a large enterprise environment.
- 8+ years of experience working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
- 3+ years of Unix/Linux experience and scripting skills in Python, Perl, or shell.
- Optional:
Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent experience. - Optional:
Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations. - Optional:
Expert‑level certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE). - Expert‑level scripting and automation skills in a network environment.
- Software development/programming skills are a plus.
