Network Engineer
Job Overview
The AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) Organization is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join the EDGE team. In this role you will design, operate, and implement large‑scale networks that support connectivity to and from Amazon and the global internet, ensuring fail‑proof, infinitely scalable performance while delivering the lowest possible cost to customers.
Key Responsibilities- Design network designs, services, and deployment procedures that meet multiple requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership to prioritize projects that support the team’s mission.
- Develop High‑Level Design (HLD) and Low‑Level Design (LLD) documents, influence technology roadmaps, construct and test solutions, and provide deployment & operation support.
- Create and automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
- Work closely with internal customers to bring designs/solutions from concept to production.
- Participate in a 24×7 on‑call rotation and drive rapid resolution of product and network incidents.
- Manage customer interactions during problem resolution and maintain high levels of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data‑center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or equivalent.
- 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience applying IP protocols, network analysis fundamentals, and robust troubleshooting skills.
- 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols, specifically BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
- 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
- 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux and scripting in Python, Perl, or shell.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
- Expert‑level certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE).
- Expert‑level scripting and/or automation skills in a network environment.
- Software development/programming skills.
