Network Development Manager, Building Connectivity Engineering

The Core Networking team is looking for a Senior Network Development Manager to join the Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. In this role you will manage global teams that design, deploy, and scale Amazon’s global network infrastructure across multiple datacenters. You will lead a team of Network Development Engineers, oversee topology design, capacity planning, incident response, and process improvement to maintain the highest quality and reliability for AWS customers.

Drive operational excellence by establishing processes, policies, and standards to improve efficiency across day‑to‑day tasks and projects. Ensure compliance with network standards and support internal customers.

Define and track metrics related to network performance, capacity, vendor equipment, failures, and ROI. Use these metrics to prioritize improvements.

Own performance and career management for the team. Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, provide technical and soft‑skill mentoring, and schedule staffing for 24/7 operations.

Lead incident and change management initiatives, improve tools and processes, and provide feedback on new practices to scale with Amazon’s growth.

Lead hiring activities, coordinate with recruiting partners, conduct phone screens and interview loops, and ensure proper training for new hires.

Identify automation opportunities in day‑to‑day operations; collaborate with software teams to deliver onboarding of new automation tasks into their frameworks.

Define and deliver strategic goals for the team and the wider topology team. Communicate goals, allocate resources, and report status to leadership.

• Work in a 24×7 team on‑call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events.
• Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
• Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining high alertness.
• Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

The AWS Network Fabric Engineering team owns datacenter network services that provide unconstrained connectivity to core AWS services such as EC2, EBS, and S3. The team builds and operates the internal network that connects all Amazon datacenters and edge locations.

• Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or related field.
• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• 5+ years people‑management experience or relevant leadership experience, managing a team of 8+ individual contributors.
• 3+ years of experience with network engineering as a manager or individual contributor.

• Experience presenting root‑cause analysis and error correction from operational events to senior management.
• Working knowledge of developing operational metrics.
• Working knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, routing/switching, troubleshooting).
• Linux experience and scripting in Python, Perl, or shell; demonstrated experience automating and managing networks with software.
• Experience representing your team or technical area to senior management.
• Experience contributing to high‑quality high‑volume recruiting plans.
