Position: Data Analyst 3 - Store Operations

Job Description

The Data Analyst 3 is a lead member of the Store Operations Data Analytics team that owns the acquisition and delivery of data and insights for Store Operations initiatives impacting Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores. The role requires strategic and creative thinking, strong stakeholder relationships, and ongoing data support that drives actionable insights and improves store-level performance. The analyst will serve as a Looker developer and AI‑native analyst, building and maintaining a modern reporting suite powered by Looker, accelerated by AI tools such as Claude.

The position monitors Store Operations initiatives, delivering timely data to influence change.

Responsibilities
  • Own “the truth” in Store Operations data, ensuring governance, automation, and integrity of all data.
  • Champion the data needs of the HQ Store Operations team, coordinating with business, data, and tech partners across Nordstrom.
  • Lead requirements gathering for Store Operations Looker projects; document business needs, metric definitions, and stakeholder sign‑off in accordance with SODA SOP standards.
  • Maintain and improve the SODA Looker reporting suite, identifying gaps, deprecating legacy content, and applying AI‑assisted workflows for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with team members and business partners to deliver high‑quality solutions and recommendations.
  • Dive deep into complex business problems, provide insights through hypothesis testing, and monitor key metrics.
  • Manage the environment of reports and analysis, ensuring organized user access and experience.
  • Maintain consistent Jira hygiene, including daily work‑logging, real‑time ticket updates, and proactive communication of blockers and risks.
  • Write custom LookML dimensions and measures, debug Explore SQL, and validate output against source systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain Looker dashboards and Explores, leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and validate data accuracy.
  • Validate data accuracy throughout development via cross‑reference with source systems and document steps per SODA data validation SOP.
  • Operate Git Hub pull requests from submission to final deployment, adhering to Nordstrom LookML Coding Standards.
  • Support analysis and diagnosis of business performance, provide expert guidance, and apply advanced analytical and statistical techniques.
  • Convey insights compellingly, using storytelling to support hypotheses and anecdotes.
  • Influence leadership and program management with fact‑based recommendations.
  • Mentor junior analysts (DA1/DA2) on LookML, SQL, data validation, and AI‑assisted workflows; contribute to team knowledge base and SOPs.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience querying, transforming, and analyzing large operational datasets using SQL and cloud‑based platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform / Big Query).
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on Looker development experience, including LookML authoring, Explore configuration, and dashboard design.
  • Strong SQL skills; experience with Google Cloud Platform (Big Query) preferred;
    Python or other scripting languages a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Science, Business, or related field with coursework in statistics or business analytics.
  • Proficiency with AI tools such as Claude for development acceleration, code generation, data validation, and workflow automation.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of translating complex findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.
  • Retail industry experience a plus.
Pay Range (California)

$89,000 – $170,500 Annual (location and experience dependent). Pay ranges may differ for other states.
