Amazon Advertising is one of Amazon’s fastest growing and most profitable businesses. The Sponsored Products (SP) team helps merchants succeed via native advertising, driving incremental sales and new product discovery.
Within Sponsored Products, the Bidding team defines and delivers advertising products around bid controls that drive discovery and sales. The team focuses on interpreting data, building AI/ML features, and optimizing bidding strategies to support millions of advertisers.
Key responsibilitiesAs a Senior Applied Scientist on this team, you will:
- Lead a new initiative focused on AI/ML based features for Sponsored Products Bidding.
- Serve as a technical leader in AI/ML across the team and with other teams.
- Perform hands‑on analysis and modeling of large data sets to develop insights that increase traffic monetization and merchandise sales.
- Drive end‑to‑end AI/ML projects with high ambiguity, scale, and complexity.
- Build models, create proofs‑of‑concept, run experiments, optimize, and deploy models into production in collaboration with software engineers.
- Run A/B experiments, gather data, and perform statistical analysis.
- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large‑scale data analysis, model development, validation, and serving.
- Research new and innovative AI/ML approaches.
- Recruit applied scientists to the team and provide mentorship.
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business applications.
- PhD or Master’s degree plus 6+ years of applied research experience.
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related languages.
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies.
- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit‑learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensor Flow, Num Py, Sci Py, etc.
- Experience with large‑scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
Base salary range: $ – $ annually (WA, Seattle). The package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
