About the TeamThe Complex Liability Solutions (CLS) team is a specialized group of underwriters, risk engineering consultants, and liability claims professionals focused on hard‑to‑place products and premises risks. We tackle high‑hazard exposures every day and provide innovative solutions for accounts that often fall outside the appetite of traditional retail carriers. This is an excellent opportunity for Middle Market, Primary Casualty, or Excess Casualty Underwriters looking to expand their expertise into complex, high‑hazard liability risks.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Underwrite and manage new and renewal complex liability accounts.
- Apply technical underwriting expertise in risk selection, pricing, account administration and portfolio management.
- Evaluate difficult‑to‑place General Liability, Products Liability, and Excess Casualty risks.
- Identify opportunities that align with underwriting appetite and business strategy.
- Develop and execute account‑specific strategies for new and renewal business.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by providing consultative solutions to brokers and agents.
- Manage an assigned territory through strategic planning and operational excellence.
- Tailor service plans to meet the unique needs of each client and distribution partner.
- Influence account pricing, structure and terms to achieve profitable outcomes.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of business opportunities.
- Drive the sales process through effective planning, execution and performance monitoring.
- Identify and generate cross‑sell and up‑sell opportunities across The Hartford’s product portfolio.
- Effectively communicate The Hartford’s value proposition to brokers and agency partners.
- Hold internal and external business partners accountable while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and service.
- 3+ years of Property & Casualty carrier underwriting experience (strong preference for casualty underwriting expertise).
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- High‑energy, resilient self‑starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Strong organizational, time‑management and desk‑management skills.
- Goal‑oriented with a track record of delivering results.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win in a dynamic marketplace.
- Advanced technical underwriting knowledge and sound judgment.
Travel:
Approximately 25%.
Work arrangement:
Hybrid, with an expectation of working from a designated Hartford office or conducting agency visits Tuesday through Thursday.
The listed annualized base pay range is $98,800 – $184,800. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives and on‑the‑spot recognition.
