Job Overview
The Senior Underwriter will focus on retail Cyber/IT & Miscellaneous E&O underwriting, reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability for Markel. The role involves communicating with underwriting management, regional and national product line leaders, offering operations and system recommendations, and participating in audits and underwriting meetings.
Responsibilities- Review, analyze, accept, and decline retail Cyber/IT & Misc E&O risks.
- Underwrite new business that achieves underwriting profit.
- Manage existing renewal book and implement corrective measures to meet profitability expectations.
- Communicate with regional managers and national product line leaders on individual accounts, proposing recommendations regarding operations, systems and procedures.
- Participate in audits and underwriting meetings.
- Build and maintain quality relationships with key producers while monitoring the entire appointed producer base for profitability and production.
- Review competitor forms and pricing, and effectively market the Markel product within the competitive landscape.
- Provide training or technical assistance to department underwriting support staff.
- 3–5 years of Cyber/IT/Misc E&O underwriting experience on the East Coast of the USA.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflecting progression to positions of increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated marketing and relationship building skills.
- Four‑year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Microsoft Office skills including MS Word and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
