Job Overview

A highly respected intellectual property law firm is seeking a full-time patent prosecution team attorney for its Seattle, Washington office. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys with experience preparing and prosecuting software-related patent applications who are seeking an alternative to the traditional partnership-track model while continuing to work on technically complex and intellectually rewarding matters.

The role is designed for patent attorneys who value high-quality work, client interaction, and collaboration, while also benefiting from a lower billable hour requirement. Attorneys in this position support a wide range of innovative clients and technologies and are trusted with significant responsibility in managing patent portfolios and advising on strategic intellectual property decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and prosecute software-related patent applications before the USPTO
  • Draft patent specifications, claims, and responses to Office Actions
  • Develop and manage patent portfolios aligned with client business objectives
  • Provide strategic counseling on patentability, prosecution strategy, and portfolio development
  • Collaborate with attorneys, agents, and technical specialists on complex matters
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and emerging technologies
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of patent prosecution experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent legal writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently while collaborating effectively with a team
Education & Technical Background
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field
Technical Skills & Experience
  • Experience with software-related technologies such as cloud computing, cybersecurity and encryption, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, mobile applications, databases, and networking is strongly preferred
  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear and effective patent claims
