The Washington State Attorney General’s Office is looking for an attorney to serve in the Revenue & Finance Division (REV) in downtown Seattle, WA.

This position represents the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB) and the Washington State Law Enforcement Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ Plan 2 Retirement Board. The position primarily provides client advice and related duties as described below.
Responsibilities- Provide client advice in writing and orally related to investments, securities, pensions, employee benefits, constitutional law, tax, open public meetings, public records, and board governance.
- Review, negotiate, and draft complex investment contracts related to private market investments for the State’s retirement funds, in consultation with outside counsel and investment officers at the WSIB.
- Review contract amendments, consents, and most favored nation election forms.
- Provide litigation recommendations to the WSIB with respect to domestic and foreign securities litigation.
- At least three years of experience as a transactional attorney working with investments (or a combination of at least one year as an attorney and at least three years’ work experience in finance/investments).
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills; ability to produce high-quality work.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing, time-sensitive assignments.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent client advisory skills, including advising executive leadership; strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
- Commitment to ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to work with a complex client agency and problem-solve with clients.
- Strong public service orientation and experience working with outside counsel.
- Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex contracts, including investment and custodial contracts.
- Expertise with private market investments (private equity, real estate, tangible assets) including through funds and separately managed accounts.
- Understanding of federal and state securities laws and related regulations; familiarity with ESG regulatory environment.
- Experience with federal tax law, securities litigation, and state law issues including sovereign immunity and open records laws.
- Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of WSBA’s Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; licensed to practice law in Washington State. Applicants meeting other qualifications and actively pursuing admission may be considered.

- Salary range: $82,212 to $153,996, with placement in Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA;
