The Snohomish County Charter Review Commission is seeking qualified contract attorneys for the role of independent counsel throughout the Snohomish County charter review process.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attend meetings of the Commission and provide legal guidance, review and analyze proposed charter amendments, offer verbal and written legal opinions on topics raised by the Commission, interpret applicable state and federal laws, ensure proposed ballot language meets legal standards, advise on compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA) and the Public Records Act (PRA), draft or review legal memoranda, summaries or briefing materials, serve as a nonpartisan, neutral legal advisor to the Commission.
Qualified applicants have experience in:
Washington municipal, administrative and constitutional law; county home rule charters and ballot measure drafting; election law and public meeting statutes; strong legal writing skills; and advising public commissions, elected bodies or ballot committees.
The initial term of the temporary/part-time agreement will begin upon execution of a Professional Services Agreement and end August 31, 2026, with the possibility of an extension at the sole discretion of the Commission.
