Overview
The FIRST (Family Intervention Response to Stop Trauma) Legal Clinic is a free service dedicated to supporting pregnant individuals and parents of newborns at risk of Child Protective Services (CPS) involvement. Through proactive advocacy and community partnerships, FIRST Clinic has helped ensure that 80% of their clients avoid dependency filings and the potential trauma of child removal. By addressing systemic issues, the Clinic plays a critical role in reducing the negative impact of CPS interventions on families.
FIRST Clinic operates with a mission of compassion, innovation, and fierce advocacy to protect and empower vulnerable families in the community.
This is a full-time on-site role for the Executive Director of FIRST Legal Clinic, located in Seattle, WA. The Executive Director will oversee the daily operations of the clinic, provide legal guidance, and develop strategies to meet organizational goals. Additional responsibilities include managing staff, building community partnerships, offering legal advice, conducting case reviews, preparing legal documents, and advocating for clients. The Executive Director will also collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the clinic’s impact on the community.
Qualifications- Expertise in Law, including a strong understanding of legal processes and policies
- Experience in Legal Document Preparation and providing Legal Advice
- Knowledge of Property Law and proficiency in Conveyancing
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to build strong community partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in the Washington State Bar Association
- Experience in family law or working with underrepresented communities
