Role OverviewThe General Counsel will serve as the company’s chief legal strategist and risk partner
.
This is not a back-office compliance role. You will be deeply involved in business decisions, product design, contracts, partnerships, and long-term strategy
. You will help the company grow responsibly while protecting brand, reputation, and operational integrity.
You are expected to think like a business leader first, and a lawyer second.
Key Responsibilities 1. Legal Strategy & Business Partnership- Act as a trusted advisor to the Founder and leadership team.
- Provide clear, practical legal guidance on strategic initiatives, partnerships, and growth plans.
- Balance speed and risk in a high-growth environment.
- Translate legal complexity into actionable business decisions.
- Oversee corporate governance, entity structuring, and board matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, vendor agreements, partnerships, and client-facing documents.
- Support pricing structures, guarantees, refund policies, and service terms.
- Ensure contracts align with business reality and customer experience.
- Own compliance across applicable federal, state, and international regulations relevant to the business.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks proactively.
- Build scalable compliance frameworks that support growth, not slow it down.
- Oversee data privacy, security, and internal policies in collaboration with operations and tech teams.
- Partner with growth and product teams to review new offerings before launch.
- Ensure marketing claims, positioning, and guarantees are legally sound and defensible.
- Help design offerings that are both competitive and compliant.
- Manage disputes, complaints, and escalations with a focus on resolution and brand protection.
- Oversee external counsel when litigation or specialized advice is required.
- Protect the company’s reputation through sound legal judgment and early intervention.
- Build and manage a lean, high-quality legal function.
- Decide what to handle internally versus through external counsel.
- Create templates, playbooks, and processes to reduce friction across teams.
- Educate leadership and teams on legal best practices without creating fear or bureaucracy.
- Strong experience as in-house counsel or senior legal leader in a high-growth company.
- Excellent judgment and ability to operate in ambiguity.
- Commercially minded. You understand how businesses actually work.
- Clear communicator who can advise non-legal stakeholders effectively.
- High integrity with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
- Comfortable working closely with founders and senior leadership.
