Overview

Assistant Supply Chain Manager - Power – Mortenson is seeking an Assistant Supply Chain Manager - Power to support the Power Delivery Operating Group. This role oversees Project Buyers responsible for procurement supporting the construction of substations, wind collection systems, and transmission lines. The Assistant Supply Chain Manager leads day-to-day supply chain operations, team performance, supplier coordination, and procurement execution. This position partners closely with project leadership, engineering teams, and external vendors to ensure materials and equipment are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with contractual and risk-management standards.

Responsibilities
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Partner with internal stakeholders, including project teams, estimating, and design-phase leads, to align supply chain strategies with project goals and timelines.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Develop and implement package strategies with Supply Chain Leadership and Category Managers, leveraging volume across projects to improve cost, delivery, and risk profiles.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Review supplier commercial redlines, identifying deviations that impact commercial, legal, safety, or schedule risk.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Lead the first round of commercial review, negotiation, and clarification with suppliers; ensure terms and conditions align with project contract flow-down requirements.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Partner with Legal, Operations, and Risk teams to ensure contract terms, insurance requirements, and compliance standards are consistently upheld.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Support negotiations and maintain contracts and agreements with key suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitiveness.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and productivity, while leveraging Mortenson’s combined buying power.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Remain knowledgeable about industry trends, market shifts, and critical equipment lead times.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Collaborate with Category teams on project proposal strategies and pricing structures.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Support Buyer coordination of material planning to ensure timely delivery aligned with project schedules, including long-lead and critical-path materials.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Capture feedback from the field and integrate it into procurement strategies, supplier selection, and Buyer coaching.
  • Supply Chain Operations and Strategy – Participate in terms-and-conditions negotiations with suppliers and ensure ongoing contract compliance.
People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Buyer team, ensuring clear priorities, process excellence, and effective workload management.
  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and integration within Supply Chain and across Mortenson to drive cohesive, high-quality execution.
  • Provide effective coaching and feedback, manage performance, and cultivate a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across diverse teams and organizational levels.
  • Provide oversight to ensure procurement activities align with engineering deliverables, field needs, and project schedules.
  • Troubleshoot supply issues unique to high-voltage and renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted construction progress.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or related discipline or equivalent technical training and experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive supply chain experience, including knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials, and/or procurement procedures.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate complex problems into clear actions.
  • Skilled communicator who builds trust and clarity across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
