Position: Automotive and/or Truck Mechanic

The City of Seattle is seeking a journey-level heavy duty/equipment mechanic or automotive mechanic (AM). This role works on a wide variety of fleet equipment, including class 1-8 over-the-road (OTR) vehicles, off road equipment, utility vehicles, and miscellaneous components. For example, hybrid and EV vehicles, aerial equipment, road construction specialty vehicles, and hydro-excavator trucks - all of which support essential City of Seattle operations.

As fleet mechanic, you are part of a team that performs preventative maintenance, ensures repairs are completed, and performs emergency repairs for the people who count on us to keep their equipment safe and reliable. The City of Seattle has committed to transitioning the fleet to alternative energy so you will have an opportunity to work on cutting edge technology alongside old-school equipment.

You will be working in a great team atmosphere. In addition to your shop supervisor, you will be supported by a Crew Chief and a Senior Mechanic. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical systems and diagnostics. Through training and working with mentors you will gain knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic principals, diesel and gas engine technology, and EV/alternative fuels.
