Position SummaryUnder close supervision, performs general custodial services at customer locations or other assigned areas. Duties include cleaning and detailing conference rooms, offices, cafeterias, courthouses, classrooms, government facilities and common areas. Employees use proper materials and methods to ensure facilities are clean and free of safety hazards, requiring knowledge of custodial practices, equipment, supplies and procedures, and the ability to perform quality work safely.
TypicalDuties
- Perform cleaning services using proper equipment and supplies; follow safe usage procedures.
- Cleans facilities, restrooms, common areas, and cafeterias.
- Remove trash and replace plastic bags.
- Dust and polish equipment, furniture, and fixtures.
- Clean tables, microwaves, and other surfaces.
- Vacuum carpets, sweep, mop, and deodorize floors.
- Clean walls, arrange furniture, and clean window blinds.
- Use correct chemicals on all surfaces and fill dispensers.
- Maintain quality of work and customer satisfaction; respond to requests or refer to supervisor.
- Clean spills promptly.
- Maintain custodial equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
- May wax and buff floors regularly.
- May operate equipment such as a cardboard bailer.
- May monitor inventory and supply areas.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- 0 to 1 year of custodial work experience preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions on chemical usage labels and safety procedures.
- Ability to learn and use specialized custodial equipment.
- Effective communication skills to respond to customers and report needs.
- Human‑relations skills for effective teamwork.
- Availability for evening work and flexibility for schedule changes.
- Ability to manage material resources and time.
- Organizational, problem‑solving, and common‑sense skills.
- Maneuver in and around the work site.
- Stand and walk; bend, kneel, reach, and stoop.
- Lift boxes or equipment up to 35 lb routinely and up to 50 lb occasionally.
- Push or pull vacuums, carts, mops, etc.; possibly up to 70 lb.
- Grasp both small and large objects.
- Climb ladders and/or step stools.
Work is performed in office or client environments (federal courthouses, military bases, etc.). Employees may be exposed to toxic chemicals, noise, cold or heat.
