Custodian 2 – Part‑time
South Seattle College – Facilities Department

We are seeking a hard‑working, team‑player Custodian 2 to maintain the cleanliness of campus facilities. This part‑time, classified (union‑represented) role requires working under the Facilities Manager, completing general janitorial duties while respecting the diverse community that makes up our college.

• Perform routine janitorial and custodial functions in assigned work areas.
• Clean classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, gymnasium, library, offices and related facilities.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish concrete, linoleum, tile, wood floors, floor panels and hand rails.
• Wash windows, walls, whiteboards, chalkboards and trays.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment for campus functions, classes and special activities.
• Maintain rugs and carpets; replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
• Lock and unlock doors, gates, buildings and windows as needed.
• Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate authorities.
• Pick up paper and debris, sweep, clean stairs, walkways and entrances.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning and polishing machines.
• Respond to callbacks and overtime duties as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• 6 months to 1 year of combined training and experience in custodial work.
• Capacity for moderate physical effort, including frequent standing, walking, lifting or moving heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of efficient cleaning methods, materials, tools and safe handling of chemicals.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; proficient reading and writing skills.
• Quick learning of new technologies and products as directed.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary for safe and effective performance.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships, demonstrating sensitivity to diversity in an academic environment.
• Valid Washington State driver's license.
