Position Overview

Custodial Services, Central Library, 1000 4th Ave, Seattle. Regular, FLSA non‑exempt, full‑time position (80 hours per pay period).

Schedule:

3am – 11:30am; 6am – 2:30pm; 12pm – 8:30pm. Hours may include weekdays, weekends, evenings. Shift assignments subject to change.

Salary Range: $26.45 – $32.08 per hour.

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, public areas, offices, high‑touch surfaces, and floors.
• Restock supplies, dispose trash, recycling, and compost waste.
• Respond immediately to work requests: spills, clogs, bio‑fluid cleanup, graffiti removal, drug paraphernalia cleanup.
• Pressure wash, sweep stairs, assist with event setup, move furniture on an occasional basis.
• Attend meetings, training, and collaborate as part of a team.
• Provide customer service to patrons and staff.
• Support a safe work environment, mission and internal values.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• At least one year custodial/janitorial experience in a commercial or public facility.
• Effective communication and ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in a team.
• Knowledge of hazardous cleaning chemicals and use of SDS.
• Knowledge of blood borne, airborne and other pathogens for workplace safety.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic customer service skills and verbal/written communication in English.
• Ability to follow written schedules and task assignments.
• Basic competence with Microsoft desktop applications and email; accurate online timesheet use.

• Two or more years of hard floor care experience.
• Two or more years of experience with commercial cleaning equipment (floor strippers, buffers, steam cleaners, carpet extractors).
• Experience setting up rooms and spaces for events.
• Experience working with diverse language speakers and cultural identities.
• Experience pressure washing in varying weather.

• Stand, walk, push, reach, pull, twist, squat, bend for extended periods.
• Lift objects up to 30 pounds from ground level to overhead.
• Handle toxic/hazardous substances.
• Wear personal protective equipment as directed.
• Work outdoors in most weather conditions.
• Work near patrons, including vulnerable populations.
• May work overnight; shift differential applies.
