Position SummaryEvening Custodians ensure the Science Center is thoroughly cleaned and reset after operating hours. This role focuses on deep cleaning exhibit spaces, theaters, and event areas, preparing the facility for the next day's guests. Evening Custodians work behind the scenes to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety, supporting special events and evening operations. This position is eligible for the evening shift premium of $1.00.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform deep cleaning of exhibit spaces, theaters, and event areas after operating hours.
- Reset exhibits and public spaces for the next day's operations.
- Vacuum carpets, mop floors, and conduct periodic carpet extraction.
- Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the facility.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and staff areas during evening shifts.
- Operate basic custodial equipment such as walk‑behind scrubbers and vacuums.
- Support post‑event cleanup and special evening projects.
- Maintain accurate logs of completed tasks and report any facility issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols during evening operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during evening shifts.
- Strong attention to detail for deep cleaning and resetting exhibits.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures.
- Ability to follow evening cleaning schedules and complete logs accurately.
- Basic computing skills for logging maintenance issues and completing task checklists.
- Flexibility to work late evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours for events.
- Physical stamina for prolonged standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- At least 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in evening or off‑hours settings.
- Ability to work late evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and proper handling procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Experience operating walk‑behind scrubbers, carpet extractors, and other custodial equipment.
- Previous experience in a museum, theater, or event venue environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- Extended periods of standing and walking during evening shifts.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching for deep cleaning tasks.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Repetitive motions such as vacuuming and mopping large areas.
- Medium work — exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and up to 30 lbs. frequently.
- Work performed primarily indoors after hours, occasional outdoor tasks.
- Subject to low‑light conditions and noise from equipment.
- Exposure to vibration from custodial machines and cleaning chemicals.
- Must wear PPE and follow safety protocols for evening operations.
