Scientific Program Manager, Science Initiatives

The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.

We believe a strong ecosystem of collaborative partners is the fastest path to making and translating scientific discoveries into real-world impact. The Science Initiatives team drives internal and external activities in parallel to promote the Allen Institute’s mission and help accelerate the timeline from science-to-impact. Our team bridges science and administrative functions, working closely with leadership, scientists across the Allen Institute, and key external partners to plan and manage activities in three areas: (1) Science Programs, (2) Scientific Partnerships, and (3) External Affairs.

We are seeking a Scientific Program Manager to join our team. This position, reporting to the VP of Science Initiatives, will primarily support a growing portfolio of Institute-wide Science Programs. This includes key roles in managing the existing Allen Institute Next Generation Leaders program and developing new initiatives to promote synergies and consistency across Allen Institute research programs. The successful candidate will possess a strong scientific foundation in cell biology, neuroscience, or immunology.

They will be adept at fostering communities and relationships with diverse groups of internal and external partners. They will also have demonstrated progressive abilities and responsibilities as a professional Program and Project Manager. As a leader, collaborator and effective communicator, this role can drive momentum and build consensus, working at the interface of multi-site and multi-disciplinary teams.

At the Allen Institute, we believe that science is for everyone – and should be open to everyone. We are dedicated to combating biases and reducing barriers to STEM careers more broadly. We also believe that science is better when it includes different perspectives and voices. We strive to make the Allen Institute a place where everyone feels like they belong and are empowered to do their best work in a supportive environment.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for our open positions.
