Position: Manager, Life Underwriting

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Life Underwriting team as a Manager, Life Underwriting!

About the role

Symetra's Individual Life Division has an opening for a Life Underwriting Manager. This role will lead a team of underwriters who support our Direct Marketing partners through Symetra's award winning Swift Digital application process. Ideal candidates will have a passion for customer service, employee development, and growth.

What you'll do in this role
  • Provides direction, guidance and oversight of services for team members engaged in appraising and underwriting applications for life insurance, assessing mortality and morbidity within company guidelines.
  • Charged with building the expertise of technically competent underwriters, providing co-signs and driving the team to meet service level expectations.
  • The Manager will identify opportunities for profitable growth to achieve a balanced, sound and quality book while protecting company's assets.
  • Be responsible for the team’s ability to meet the company's financial objectives as well as ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining highly effective business relationships with both internal and external partners in order to attract, develop and retain profitable business for the division.

Compensation

Salary Range: $106,400- $ 177,300 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are:
  • Growing in leadership ability. Develop direct reports by helping to form individual development plans and understanding career goals of each team member
  • Advancing manager, manages the work of others through leads, unit managers and senior level individual contributors.
  • Advanced knowledge of the field as well as supervisory experience and strong leadership skills.
  • 6-9 years of cumulative, relevant experience
